Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering

Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the largest department at Chalmers with research ranging from the most fundamental level to a level close to application in industry and society. The research activities reach from DNA-research and biomaterials to high temperature corrosion, catalysis and recycling. The Department is also heavily committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level in these areas.

Health, natural resources, sustainable energy and materials are some of our lead words and our vision is “Through curiosity and knowledge towards a sustainable world”.

We have approximately 300 employees, divided into four research and one administrative division. We are situated at campus Johanneberg in the middle of Gothenburg.

Information about the department
Chalmers University of Technology is making a large initiative in Continuous Production, with the objective of revitalizing the process research. The initiative consists of three integrated projects at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences, and Department of Industrial and Materials Science.

As a part of the initiative the Department of Chemistry and Chemical engineering is recruiting a tenure-track position as Assistant professor in Chemical Engineering. The research area is related to chemical process engineering with the use of experimental techniques. In addition, the laboratory at the Division of Chemical engineering is reinforced with a new high resolution MRI that we hope will contribute and strengthen the scientific environment at the Division even more.

The successful candidate will be part of the Division of Chemical Engineering, one of four research divisions at K, where we have a wide range of expertise such as unit operations, chemical reaction engineering and forest products. The Division has a long tradition of studying fundamental scientific questions, as well as applied problems together with industry, using both experiments and modelling techniques.

Major responsibilities
The position involves participation in both research, teaching and utilization of research. The position is part of the large Chalmers initiative in Continuous Production, which makes it a good platform for collaboration with other researchers within this initiative and the Area of Advance Production. The field of the research is chemical process engineering with the use of experimental techniques, where MRI is supposed to be a central part. Moreover, your research questions should fall within Chemical process engineering and unit operations, such as for example drying, dissolution, flow pattern, mass transfer, heat transfer etc.

Teaching is an important requirement for this position, which involves approximately 10% teaching in Chemical Engineering courses at Bachelor or Master level.

The position is a full-time employment for a maximum of four years where you are expected to achieve Associate professor expertise. Given that you fulfil the individual performance criteria for an Associate professorship within four years, the Department intends to support your internal recruitment to a tenured position

Qualifications
To qualify for this position as Assistant Professor, you must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or Applied Chemistry research area. The degree should have been completed at most seven years before the deadline for the application. Experience in nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, such as MRI or NMR is a requirement for the position. In addition you should be positive to interact and collaborate with different colleagues and companies.

The position requires excellent skills in English, both verbal and written. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses, and you are expected to be able to participate in teaching at courses given in Swedish at the undergraduate level after four years, i.e. to have a Swedish language proficiency sufficient to understand course specific questions from the students in Swedish.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
